Today I want to share my thoughts with you and ask your opinion on an element of the fashion industry that often bothers me. When Vogue Australia posted the above image on their Instagram account two days ago, I couldn’t help but feel uneasy about the response to these Louis Vuitton padlock bracelets. One Instagrammer asked: ‘do you know how much??’ to which Vogue Australia responded: ‘these gorgeous bracelets are $13,200 each’. Now, I don’t want to undermine the success of Louis Vuitton in any way, they are a luxury fashion label who have made a name for themselves through innovative design and lust-worthy collections. Having said that, these bracelets are essentially a glorified bike chain that people will actually pay $13,200 for… really?
I appreciate that these bracelets are created with fine metals but honestly, if you have over $13,000 to spend on a padlock for your wrist or handbag, you should probably be spending your money on something more worthwhile. I’d love to know your opinion on this issue, maybe you think I’m an absolute idiot who doesn’t know beautiful jewellery when I see it? What do you think: is this fabulous or excessive? Let me know in the comments below!

I agree with you Bonnie. Price aside, when I saw these bracelets I had no desire to want to buy one. Their design doesn’t capture me, there’s no originality or creativity about them at all.
I’m gathering that the people who would spend that much money on a bracelet like this would want people to know that they can afford a piece like this, wearing the LV label blatantly on their sleeve rather than an original one off original piece.
Thanks for your comment Lei Lei, I totally agree with you! To me this just seems like Louis Vuitton slapping an LV on some supplies from Bunnings and charging an arm and a leg – because they can!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m loving the industrial look but If I wanted one of these I would pop down to a hardware store!

they are the ones who create the fashion, they
design the trends. it’s high street brands and people in advertising who do the forecasting, based on what the lovely designers give them.. . they normally design a two seasons ahead. but they only come out on the catwalks one season before. . . so the spring/summer collection will come out in winter. but the designers will be on the next autumn/winter collection.
While there are people starving in the world, I will never throw 13,000 down the drain on something so useless! I mean, you can justify buying a “classic” bag (like, a super pricey one that you’ll wear forEVER) because you actually DO need a bag in life to carry stuff with. Again the same with expensive shoes that you’ll wear a lot. But when it gets this ridiculous, I actually think it’s disgusting!
